Power BI Data Analyst

Our client, a banking company, is looking for a Power BI Data Analyst to join their team.

***This is a 1-year contract with potential to extend or convert to FTE.***

This is a hybrid opportunity located in Toronto, ON.

• About the Role
• CIBC is looking for a Power BI Data Analyst who goes beyond building dashboards — someone who turns data into compelling, executive-ready stories that drive decisions, not just charts that display numbers.
• What You'll Do
• Design visually polished, executive-ready dashboards that communicate a clear narrative
• Build and maintain robust semantic models using star schema and snowflake design principles
• Write advanced DAX measures, calculation groups, and time-intelligence calculations
• Develop efficient data transformation pipelines using Power Query (M)
• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and Object-Level Security (OLS) for data access governance
• Manage Power BI Service workspaces, datasets, and deployment pipelines
• Maintain reports in Git-integrated PBIP format with CI/CD deployment
• Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into meaningful reports
• Ensure reports meet usability, accessibility, and performance standards
• What You Bring
• Strong data modeling expertise (star schema, snowflake, normalization)
• Advanced DAX and Power Query (M)
• Experience with semantic modeling, calculation groups, and performance tuning
• Solid grasp of Direct Query, Import, and Composite models
• RLS/OLS implementation for enterprise-grade data security
• Power BI Service and workspace/deployment pipeline management
• Git-based version control for Power BI (PBIP format) with CI/CD integration
• Familiarity with Copilot in Power BI and AI-powered visuals
• Proficiency with Tabular Editor, Best Practice Analyzer, DAX Studio, and Performance Analyzer
• Strong presentation and data storytelling skills
• Current knowledge of Power BI and Microsoft Fabric capabilities
• Nice to Have
• A sample dashboard to present at interview, showcasing storytelling, design quality, and communication
• Background in commercial banking, lending, corporate banking, or credit risk
