About The Role

Are you passionate about accelerating the future of autonomous driving? Join the Embodied AI team at General Motors, where we develop and deploy cutting-edge machine learning solutions to support safe and reliable autonomous vehicle behavior across diverse real-world scenarios. As a Staff ML Infra Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing core systems that facilitate rapid dataset generation, training, evaluation, and iteration of our most advanced autonomous driving models. Your work will enable the creation of large foundational driving models and the distillation of multi-stage production models, significantly accelerating the machine learning development cycle. You will be responsible for delivering high-performance, reliable, and user-friendly model training pipelines that impact the speed and quality of our autonomous vehicle systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems, applications, or advanced machine learning systems
• Proven track record of designing robust frameworks with high-quality, durable APIs
• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms with practical application experience
• Expertise in building reliable, high-performance, and cost-efficient systems on modern cloud infrastructure
• End-to-end experience across the ML development lifecycle, including MLOps practices
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across teams and organizations
• Exceptional coding skills in Python or C++
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of scalable platforms and tools that support machine learning model training and evaluation workflows across GM
• Own complex technical projects end-to-end, making key architectural decisions and technical trade-offs
• Participate actively in team planning, design reviews, and maintaining high code quality standards
• Take a holistic approach to project management, considering their broader impact across multiple teams and over time
• Proactively drive technical prioritization and collaborate with partner teams to maximize system benefits
• Contribute to talent acquisition efforts through technical interviewing and maintaining high standards
• Mentor and onboard junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional growth and development
