About The Role
We are seeking a Principal Technical Lead in Embodied AI Data Foundations to join our Data Scaling team. In this senior individual contributor role, you will be at the forefront of developing end-to-end machine learning solutions that leverage diverse data sources, including real-world and synthetic datasets, to enhance autonomous vehicle performance. Your expertise will drive the design, architecture, and deployment of data curation and training pipelines, ensuring our models can reliably navigate complex real-world scenarios. You will lead critical technical initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and influence the future of GM's autonomous driving capabilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to impact the safety, reliability, and scalability of autonomous vehicle technology on a global scale.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
- Proven experience working with large-scale Foundation Models and alignment techniques
- Experience translating research into impactful real-world applications
- Proficiency in AI frameworks such as PyTorch and programming languages like Python
- Experience building and scaling large model training pipelines in distributed environments
- Strong data processing skills using tools such as Numpy, Pandas, and Apache Spark
- Knowledge of deploying foundation models into production environments
- Previous experience in Robotics or Autonomous Driving is highly desirable
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in remote or hybrid work settings
Responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative technologies aligned with GM’s mission for autonomous vehicle development
- Develop and apply advanced techniques such as unsupervised pre-training, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and model guidance to enhance performance and safety
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize foundation model distillation recipes for onboard driving systems
- Conduct research to stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI frameworks, libraries, and methodologies
- Lead projects from conception through deployment, ensuring best practices and thorough documentation
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
- Build scalable, high-performance data pipelines and ML models that support iterative development and deployment cycles
- Ensure models are robust, safe, and capable of handling diverse real-world driving conditions
