Mainframe Engineer – Data Archival & Retention

• Compensation: $70-75/hr
• Location: 100% REMOTE

We are looking for a hands-on Mainframe Engineer to support a targeted Data Archival & Retention program. The engineer will help establish a repeatable archive and restore lifecycle across one or more claims-related business processes. The role will focus on archival, validation, reconciliation, evidence generation, and restore/rehydration capabilities across DB2 and VSAM environments.

Responsibilities:

• Assess existing archival jobs, scripts, utilities, and batch processes.
• Analyze DB2 and VSAM data structures and dependencies supporting claims-related applications.
• Design and implement data archival workflows and processes.
• Design and implement restore, recovery, and data rehydration workflows.
• Develop and maintain JCL and mainframe batch jobs supporting archival and restore processes.
• Integrate archival processes with enterprise scheduling tools.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and integrity checks.
• Generate technical evidence and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Create technical runbooks, operational procedures, and support documentation.
• Support production-readiness activities, deployment planning, and operational handoff.
• Collaborate with application, database, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure archival and retention requirements are met.
• Qualifications:
• 8+ years of hands-on Mainframe engineering experience.
• Strong experience with IBM DB2 for z/OS.
• Strong experience with VSAM.
• Strong JCL development and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with mainframe batch processing.
• Experience integrating batch processes with enterprise scheduling tools.
• Hands-on experience with data archival, restore, recovery, or rehydration processes.
• Understanding of data retention and data lifecycle management.
• Experience performing data validation and reconciliation.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to analyze existing mainframe applications, jobs, dependencies, and utilities.
