Over the past two years, Adelphi has experienced exponential growth, expanding tenfold, and has established strong trust with senior leaders in the Department of War and the Intelligence Community, positioning ourselves as a leader in AI-driven national security initiatives.
About The Role
The Machine Forward Deployed Learning Engineer role at Adelphi offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and national security needs. This position demands a blend of software development expertise, LLM operations, and SecDevOps practices, making it an exciting and fast-paced engineering role. The successful candidate will contribute to the full stack of large language model (LLM) systems, from the operating system, storage, and networking layers to APIs and transport mechanisms. Experience within defense or intelligence environments is essential, as you will be involved in delivering agentic, full-stack systems built on frontier models—from initial prototypes to stable, deployed solutions embedded alongside our defense and intelligence clients. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and direct engagement with customers to understand operational challenges, support delivery sequencing, and ensure the successful deployment of AI applications in classified or air-gapped environments. The position is based in the DC/Metro area, with remote candidates considered and an expectation of approximately 25% travel. An active U.S. Government clearance is strongly preferred, though clearance-eligible candidates are also encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in software development within defense or intelligence sectors
- Strong understanding of LLMs, AI tooling, and agent frameworks (LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, Claude Agent SDK, AutoGen, or similar)
- Familiarity with modern agent orchestration and SDKs
- Hands-on experience with ML services, embeddings, RAG, and agent orchestration in production environments
- Proficiency with infrastructure management tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS (preferred)
- Knowledge of encryption, authentication, Linux systems administration, DevOps, or SRE (preferred)
- Experience with federated or privacy-preserving data architectures (preferred)
- Active U.S. Government clearance or eligibility to obtain one
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on end-to-end system delivery
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for national security challenges

- Implement and optimize LLM operations, including model integration, tuning, and performance monitoring
- Develop reusable tools, patterns, and building blocks to accelerate team delivery and improve system robustness
- Support SecDevOps practices by managing infrastructure, automation, and security protocols
- Stay current with emerging AI models, tools, and industry best practices, integrating them into projects as appropriate
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members and stakeholders
- Assist in troubleshooting, verifying AI outputs, and ensuring system integrity and security
Benefits
- Healthcare coverage with 100% employee premium and 50% dependents premium for a platinum-level plan
