About The Role

Principal AI Engineer - Architecture Track

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Principal AI Engineer to join our team, focusing on designing and building production-grade AI solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced AI developer or technical lead to grow into a broader AI Architect position. The ideal candidate will possess deep engineering expertise, a thorough understanding of modern AI architecture, and a passion for driving innovation across platforms, products, and teams.

The Principal AI Engineer will collaborate closely with product managers, architects, data scientists, software engineers, security teams, and government stakeholders to translate complex mission and business requirements into secure, scalable, and reusable AI capabilities. Initially, the role will emphasize solution design and hands-on implementation, with increasing responsibilities in establishing architecture standards, technical strategy, governance, and cross-team alignment. The position is located near Horsham, PA, with a hybrid onsite schedule, and requires U.S. citizenship, successful background investigation, and Public Trust security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive professional software engineering experience, including delivering production applications or platforms.
  • Hands-on experience developing AI, machine learning, or data-intensive solutions.
  • Proficiency in Python, with experience in APIs, cloud services, data pipelines, source control, and software development best practices.
  • Strong familiarity with modern generative AI patterns such as large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector search, and AI agents.
  • Understanding of cloud-native architecture, system integration, identity and access management, observability, and secure development practices.
  • Ability to evaluate and communicate technical alternatives, architecture decisions, and tradeoffs effectively.
  • Experience working collaboratively across product, engineering, data, security, and business teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet government background, suitability, or contractual requirements.
  • Knowledge of security, privacy, accessibility, explainability, auditability, and human oversight considerations in AI solutions.
  • Experience establishing evaluation methods for accuracy, bias, safety, and reliability, along with designing controls for model versioning, data lineage, and access management.
  • Partnering with cybersecurity, legal, privacy, compliance, and governance teams throughout the AI solution lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and implement AI-powered applications, services, agents, and workflows aligned with business and government mission requirements.
  • Develop solutions utilizing large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, natural language processing, computer vision, and other AI technologies.
  • Create reusable AI components, APIs, evaluation frameworks, and reference implementations to promote scalability and efficiency.
  • Integrate AI capabilities seamlessly with enterprise platforms, data sources, workflows, and existing applications.
  • Balance rapid experimentation with engineering discipline to ensure secure, reliable, and maintainable production systems.
  • Evaluate AI models, platforms, vendors, and frameworks based on performance, cost, security, and scalability considerations.
  • Contribute to architectural standards, patterns, and guardrails for AI solutions, collaborating with senior architects.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to engineering and data science teams.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, documenting decisions, tradeoffs, and potential risks clearly.
  • Support technical discovery sessions, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and client proposals involving AI solutions.
  • Communicate complex AI concepts and limitations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure AI solutions are compliant with security policies, privacy standards, and government regulations.
  • Assist in transitioning prototypes into scalable, secure production environments, supporting ongoing maintenance and governance.
