With a rich history of pioneering advancements in software and infrastructure, Oracle is committed to delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions that drive business success across various industries. The company’s dedication to innovation is reflected in its integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud-native technologies, enabling customers to unlock new opportunities and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
About The Role
The Senior Principal AI Agent / ML Software Engineer at Oracle is a senior-level, hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing, developing, and operationalizing cutting-edge AI systems on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role involves defining the architecture and engineering strategies for next-generation agentic AI platforms, autonomous workflows, and scalable inference infrastructure that are used in mission-critical, large-scale enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in distributed systems, AI-native engineering, and cloud services, with a proven ability to translate complex, ambiguous product goals into durable technical solutions. This position requires leading multi-team initiatives without direct authority, maintaining a strong technical presence through code reviews, system design, incident management, and operational excellence. The role also involves mentoring engineering teams, setting architectural standards, and influencing technical practices across OCI to ensure the delivery of reliable, secure, and cost-effective AI platforms.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with extensive ownership of production systems, particularly in AI, ML, or distributed systems. A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Engineering, or a related field is required, or equivalent practical experience. Proven leadership experience at senior or principal levels, influencing architecture and strategic direction across multiple teams, is essential. Deep expertise in designing and operating high-scale distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI/ML platform services is critical. Hands-on experience with AI systems involving agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, and tools such as LangChain, AutoGen, or similar ecosystems is highly desirable. Strong programming skills in Python, familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud-native architectures, and observability practices are necessary. Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge of AI safety, governance, and operational risks associated with autonomous systems. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions and influence stakeholders are vital.
Responsibilities
The Senior Principal AI Agent / ML Software Engineer will serve as a senior technical owner of OCI AI platform capabilities, including agent execution, inference systems, model serving, and workflow orchestration. Responsibilities include designing scalable, reliable AI systems capable of reasoning, planning, tool use, multi-step task orchestration, and safe human-in-the-loop escalation. The role involves building production-grade services for tool calling, memory management, context handling, vector retrieval, multi-agent coordination, and policy enforcement. Leading architecture across distributed services optimized for low latency, high throughput, GPU efficiency, and security is key. The candidate will define service boundaries, APIs, data models, and operational metrics, translating broad strategic goals into executable plans with measurable milestones. They will drive technical strategy across infrastructure, security, data, and application teams, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise APIs, cloud services, and external systems. Establishing best practices for AgentOps and LLMOps, including monitoring, evaluation, safety guardrails, and experimentation, is critical. The role also involves evaluating emerging AI technologies, leading code and design reviews, automating deployment processes, and ensuring operational excellence. Mentoring senior engineers, raising architectural standards, and influencing engineering practices across OCI are integral to this role. The engineer will own critical production outcomes related to system reliability, security, performance, and cost management.
