Role Description

Within the Business Compliance Operations Department (BCDAD), the Know Your Customer (KYC) Accounts Team Analyst is responsible for performing processes related to Know Your Customer (KYC/CIP). The KYC Accounts Analyst supports the bank’s customer onboarding and account lifecycle control framework by performing KYC and account opening reviews, account maintenance validation, reconciliations, exception management, and regulatory control activities. The role serves as a key quality-control point to ensure client information, mandatory documentation, approvals, and account setup instructions are complete, accurate, and consistent with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

The analyst partners with Relationship Managers, KYC Officers, Compliance, Legal, Operations, Middle Office, Branch teams, and Technology to facilitate timely onboarding, maintain data integrity across systems, resolve breaks and documentation deficiencies, and preserve clear evidence for audit and regulatory review.

Responsibilities

Ensure operational efficiencies and customer data integrity in accordance with internal policies and procedures of SMBC and Head Office and compliance with AML/BSA/OFAC regulations.

KYC and Customer Due Diligence Reviews

  • Review KYC profiles and onboarding records for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and required approvals before account opening or activation.
  • Validate Customer Identification Program (CIP) information and required supporting documentation in accordance with policy.
  • Review legal entity formation documents, ownership structures, beneficial ownership information, authorized signers, and controlling persons.
  • Confirm the presence and completeness of applicable tax and regulatory documentation, including FATCA and CRS classifications, as required by procedure.
  • Identify missing, expired, inconsistent, or insufficient KYC documentation and coordinate remediation with the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Escalate KYC exceptions, policy deviations, unusual findings, and high-risk or time-sensitive matters through established governance channels.
  • Support periodic KYC refresh, remediation, and data-quality initiatives, including evidence collection and status tracking.

Account Opening and Onboarding Reviews

  • Perform end-to-end reviews of account opening packages to verify completeness, accuracy, and readiness for processing.
  • Validate account applications, resolutions, signature cards, authorized signer information, tax forms, legal documentation, and product-specific requirements.
  • Confirm the requested account title, ownership, currency, product, branch, booking location, purpose, and anticipated activity align with approved KYC information and supporting documents.
  • Verify that all required approvals, exceptions, and conditions are documented before account setup or activation.
  • Conduct pre-implementation quality-control reviews and communicate clear deficiencies or corrective actions to requestors.
  • Coordinate with Relationship Managers, KYC, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Branch teams to resolve onboarding issues efficiently.
  • Monitor onboarding queues and service-level agreements (SLAs), prioritizing aging, high-risk, and business-critical requests.
  • Validate account setup in applicable systems and ensure key customer and account attributes match approved source documentation.

Account Maintenance and Closure

  • Review account maintenance requests, including signer changes, address changes, account title updates, ownership changes, product changes, and other static-data amendments.
  • Validate supporting documentation and approvals before processing or releasing maintenance requests.
  • Review account closure requests for completeness, authorization, outstanding restrictions, and required downstream actions.
  • Ensure maintenance and closure activities are accurately reflected across relevant systems and control logs.

Qualifications And Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of specialized experience in Financial Services
  • Back office operations. Management experience preferred.
  • BA / BS (or equivalent experience)
  • CAMS preferred
  • Very strong technical knowledge of AML, Bank Secrecy Act, Foreign Asset Control.
  • Very strong level knowledge of KYC (Know Your Customer) process and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of banking policies, statutory and compliance regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of market practices related to compliance operations.
  • Good judgement, sense of urgency and accountability; time- management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train others.
  • Ability to execute in a high pressure environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
