  • ReelData AI is hiring a Junior Machine Learning Engineer to support and improve ReelWeight, our AI system that helps aquaculture farms understand fish welfare, biomass accuracy, and production reliability.
  • This is an early-career, hands-on role for someone who wants to work close to real-world machine learning systems. You’ll help investigate customer issues, analyze model performance, support model validation, and contribute to the tools and workflows that keep ReelWeight reliable in production.
  • This role is remote within Nova Scotia, with occasional visits to customer farm sites or the ReelData location in Dartmouth. Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada and able to support Nova Scotia-based work and travel requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide first-line technical support for ReelWeight customer issues, including investigation, triage, documentation, and escalation.
  • Help validate and improve models used for fish weight estimation, welfare insights, and production reliability.
  • Analyze model outputs against farm, harvest, and field data to identify data-quality or performance issues.
  • Support model training, inference workflows, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Contribute to data pipelines, processor-side outputs, tooling, and release checks that support reliable customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with AI, backend, hardware, and operations teammates on product improvements and new releases.
  • Document findings clearly so technical and non-technical teammates can understand what happened and what to do next.

What We’re Looking For

  • Early-career experience in machine learning, data science, computer science, engineering, math, or a related field, through a degree, project work, internships, co-ops, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong Python skills and a solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch or similar ML frameworks.
  • Comfort working with data, statistical analysis, and model-performance investigations.
  • Ability to debug messy real-world data problems and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong written communication, curiosity, and willingness to collaborate across technical and operations teams.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to farm/customer sites as needed.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with computer vision workflows such as segmentation, keypoints, or object detection.
  • Exposure to MLOps, model deployment, inference pipelines, or production monitoring.
  • Interest in biology, aquaculture, agriculture technology, or environmental impact.
  • Experience working with field data, sensor data, or production systems.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this role is $75,000 - 90,000 CAD.

ReelData AI also offers group benefits, an RRSP matching program, a health and wellness allowance, and an office equipment allowance.
