  • Company Description The Vector-Borne Diseases Hub is a Defra-UKRI One Health initiative designed to strengthen the UK’s capacity to respond to vector-borne disease threats through coordinated networks and platforms. The Hub delivers user-friendly, scalable web and software infrastructure that integrates pathogen, vector, host, and environmental data at an unprecedented level. Focusing on diseases transmitted by insects, ticks, and mites, the Hub addresses both familiar infections such as Lyme disease, Bluetongue, and Louping Ill, and emerging threats like Usutu virus, whose risks are expected to grow in the UK. By connecting data collection, management, analysis, and policy, the Hub fosters a dynamic and collaborative community of researchers and policy makers prepared to act quickly and effectively on evolving VBD risks.
  • Role Description As the Owner of the Vector-Borne Diseases Hub, this full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Seattle Area is responsible for overall strategic direction, operational management, and stakeholder engagement. The Owner oversees the design and enhancement of the Hub’s data, web, and software infrastructure to ensure it remains robust, scalable, and user-focused. Day-to-day tasks include guiding research and policy collaboration, prioritizing product and platform initiatives, and ensuring that data integration and analytics support timely decision-making on vector-borne disease threats. The Owner builds and maintains relationships with research institutions, public agencies, and other partners, manages budgets and resources, and leads cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact outcomes aligned with One Health principles.
  • Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational management skills, including strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
  • Experience with data-driven platforms or software products, particularly in areas such as data integration, web applications, or scientific information systems.
  • Background in public health, epidemiology, infectious disease, environmental science, or a related One Health discipline.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working effectively across research, government, and industry partners.
  • Proficiency in project and program management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to interpret and use scientific and policy-related data to inform operational and strategic decisions.
  • Relevant advanced degree (e.g., Master’s or PhD) in a scientific, health, or technical field is highly beneficial, or equivalent experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Familiarity with UK or international health policy frameworks, vector-borne disease surveillance, or risk assessment methodologies is an advantage.
