  • Role Description The Instructor in Applied Statistics and Business Analytics is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham, AL. The instructor will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in applied statistics, business analytics, and related quantitative disciplines, including preparing syllabi, delivering lectures, leading discussions, and assessing student performance. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing course materials, designing assignments and projects using real-world data, holding office hours, and providing academic advising and mentorship to students. The role involves collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development, incorporating innovative teaching methods and technology-enhanced learning, and contributing to program assessment and continuous improvement. The instructor may also engage in service activities such as committee work, participation in departmental events, and outreach to industry partners relevant to analytics and statistics education.
  • Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in applied statistics and business analytics, including proficiency with statistical modeling, data analysis, and interpretation of quantitative results.
  • Experience with analytics and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, SQL, or similar tools) and the ability to integrate these tools into coursework and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver clear, engaging instruction, including experience with curriculum development, assessment methods, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support a diverse student body and collaborate effectively with faculty and staff.
  • Master’s degree or higher in statistics, business analytics, data science, quantitative methods, or a closely related field; doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Evidence of successful teaching or training experience in academic or professional settings; experience with experiential or project-based learning is beneficial.
  • Ability to work on-site in Birmingham, AL, manage multiple courses and responsibilities, and contribute to departmental service and program development.
  • Familiarity with business applications of analytics (e.g., finance, marketing, operations, healthcare) and interest in connecting classroom content to real-world practice.
