- About DRL
- Diagnostics Research Laboratory (DRL) is building the missing biological data layer for oncology AI and drug development. We are developing prospectively generated, same-donor datasets connecting clinical and pathological information, whole-slide imaging, multi-omics, biospecimens, and functional drug-response data.
- Through an international clinical collection network and established relationships across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, DRL is positioned to generate differentiated, commercially consented oncology datasets tailored to specific research and development needs.
- We are now looking for an experienced life-science data product leader to help ensure that our development priorities are driven by real customer demand.
- The Opportunity
- We are seeking a Head of Product & Market Development to help DRL understand how pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and oncology AI companies currently use and purchase multimodal data.
- This is not primarily a data science, laboratory, or traditional marketing position. The successful candidate will serve as the bridge between prospective customers, DRL’s scientific team, and our commercial strategy.
- The central objective is to determine what data products customers will purchase and translate those needs into dataset specifications, product packages, pricing, licensing models, and market positioning.
- The position will report to the CEO and work closely with the CSO.
- Key Responsibilities
- Lead structured customer-discovery conversations with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and oncology AI companies.
- Identify priority buyers and use cases across translational medicine, biomarker development, computational oncology, clinical development, drug-response modeling, and AI training.
- Determine customer requirements for tumor types, cohort sizes, modalities, clinical variables, treatment outcomes, metadata, quality standards, and delivery formats.
- Translate market needs into a prioritized product and dataset-development roadmap.
- Define minimum viable commercial dataset products and opportunities for subsequent expansion or re-licensing.
- Develop product packaging, pricing, licensing, customization, and exclusivity strategies.
- Evaluate competitors and alternative data sources, including oncology-data companies, biobanks, CROs, and prospective collection providers.
- Help develop customer-facing messaging, use-case materials, sample data packages, and scientific sales presentations.
- Support early commercial discussions and help convert prospective customers into design partners, pilot projects, letters of intent, and contracts.
- Advise DRL leadership on product-market fit, partnership strategy, and allocation of dataset-development resources.
- Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience in life-science data products, precision oncology, real-world data, translational informatics, biomarker strategy, pharmaceutical partnerships, or a related field.
- Direct experience designing, buying, licensing, selling, or commercializing clinical, molecular, imaging, or multimodal datasets.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical and biotechnology research workflows and purchasing decisions.
- Ability to translate scientific requirements into commercially viable data products.
- Familiarity with data provenance, consent and commercialization rights, de-identification, cohort design, metadata standards, data quality, and missing-data considerations.
- Strong customer-discovery, strategic communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in an early-stage company with limited structure and significant ownership.
- Preferred Background
- Experience at an oncology data, precision-medicine, AI drug-development, diagnostics, CRO, or real-world evidence company.
- Experience within pharmaceutical translational medicine, computational biology, biomarker development, clinical data strategy, or external innovation.
- Prior experience working on both the buyer and provider sides of life-science data transactions.
- Existing relationships with decision-makers across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and oncology AI organizations.
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree is helpful but not required.
- Initial Objectives
- During the first 90 days, the successful candidate will be expected to help DRL:
- Complete a structured series of customer-discovery interviews.
- Define priority customer segments and purchasing stakeholders.
- Rank the most commercially attractive use cases.
- Develop specifications for the first two or three dataset products.
- Establish an initial pricing and licensing framework.
- Identify prospective design partners and pilot opportunities.
- Deliver a practical 12-month product and market-development roadmap.
- Why Join DRL?
- This is an opportunity to shape an oncology-data product portfolio of the company at an early and consequential stage. The successful candidate will have direct influence over what DRL builds, which markets it enters, and how its datasets support oncology AI and therapeutic development.
- To apply, please submit your résumé through LinkedIn along with a brief note describing your experience with life-science data products, multimodal oncology data, or pharmaceutical data partnerships.
