Wiley, a leading Washington, DC law firm, has an opening for a Financial Data Specialist postion to support our Accounting and Finace Department. The Financial Data Specialist will focus on two areas of expertise: being the lead on the month end close process, as well as performing financial analysis for Alternative Fee Arrangement and other pricing requests. This role will also assist in compiling data as needed for various firm projects and will assist the Director of Pricing and Analytics in ad hoc requests and special projects.
This position is eligible to participate in the firm’s flexible work program.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with other Accounting team members in performing month end close
- Run and update month end reporting
- Run financial analyses and support attorneys in their Alternative Fee Arrangement (AFA) requests
- Assist with other pricing functions, including RFP submissions
- Function as new technology implementation assistant for various finance and pricing tools
- Scout legal finance industry tech news and tools for best practices
- Liaison across departments on system reports
- Investigate and analyze monthly trends in Key Statistics to Director and CFO
- Author SQL queries for all aspects of daily finance reporting
- Assist with finance training and presentations
- Coordinate Practice Group and other finance group meetings
- Support financial modeling, cost management, and process improvements
- Develop pricing models, including ROI and risk analysis
- Complete ad hoc attorney financial requests and analysis for the P&A team as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both in oral and written form

- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy
- Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials

- Advanced PC skills are required, including expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, as well as financial analysis and modeling
- Understands and adopts the organizational structure

- Possesses willingness to learn and adopt new methodologies
- Operates office equipment including personal computer with keyboard
- Database and accounting system experience are a strong plus
- Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Four-year college degree required
- College coursework in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration highly desired
- Prior experience as a financial analyst or in a law firm preferred
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, or Python a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- An on-site presence is an essential function of this position; remote work may be permitted in accordance with the firm’s flexible work policy and based on business needs
- Position operates in a professional office environment which is usually quiet to moderate
- Position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and file cabinets
- Position requires that the employee be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This position is primarily a sedentary position; however, some duties and responsibilities may require the employee to lift boxes, open file cabinets, bend or stand, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and occasionally move about to access office equipment
- May require employee to carry or lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
- OTHER DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Meets the department’s expectations to retrieve, read and/or respond to firm and client-related e-mail messages during and outside of core business and scheduled work hours by connecting a personal mobile device (smartphone or tablet with a data plan) to the firm’s network

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $65,000 to $80,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
