About The Role

We are seeking a Junior Financial Analyst to join our DHS team in a fully remote capacity. This role is ideal for a finance professional with at least three years of experience, who possesses strong analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills. The successful candidate will support the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service (FPS), assisting in financial management activities that include budget support, financial record consolidation, and process documentation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to critical federal operations, gain valuable experience in federal financial processes, and work within a collaborative team environment. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust clearance, and the candidate should be comfortable working independently while actively engaging with team members and clients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in financial analysis or related fields
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • At least one year of experience in project management and program analysis
  • Two years of experience working effectively within teams, demonstrating interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Strong research, documentation, and written communication skills
  • Ability to independently conduct background research and articulate findings succinctly
  • Interest in federal financial execution, including reimbursables, federal accounting cycles, and reconciliations
  • Ability to attain and maintain a DHS Public Trust security clearance
  • Interest in federal business systems related to accounting, accountability, and financial reporting

Responsibilities

  • Support all phases of the federal budget process, including formulation, spend plan creation, contract closeout, and fiscal year budget execution
  • Assist in developing the FPS FPMD Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution reference guide and deliver training to regional financial teams
  • Consolidate and maintain historical financial and budgetary records for accurate reporting and analysis
  • Manage financial and budgetary records, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility
  • Develop and document knowledge management practices, including process documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Provide supporting documentation and respond to inquiries related to obligations, obligations timeliness, and contract closeout activities
  • Generate reports on obligation timelines, obligation values versus de-obligations, backlog status, and error rates to support decision-making
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to identify process improvements and optimize financial workflows
  • Participate in meetings, facilitate discussions, and present findings clearly to diverse audiences
