Hybrid onsite contract role in Fremont, CA Duration 4 months
We are seeking a self-directed contractor to support an engineering organization by improving and standardizing a range of existing tools, models, and workflows to increase efficiency. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, comfortable working in ambiguous areas, and effective at using available tools and information sources to research issues, apply sound judgment, and develop practical solutions with limited oversight.
Responsibilities
- Expand and refine an existing cost model for a complex hardware assembly into a more complete and decision-useful tool
- Assess current engineering work-tracking methods across spreadsheets and project management tools, and help implement a more standardized and scalable approach for an engineering organization of 30–60 people using commercially available software.
- Support completion and usability of a Python-based cost model for individual manufacturing steps and integrate its outputs into a higher-level cost framework. The current model is being built in github copilot with prompt based coding.
- This role will also support additional automation and productivity initiatives aimed at improving engineering efficiency.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations, Manufacturing, Analytics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong Excel skills and solid analytical problem-solving ability
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, research unfamiliar topics, and develop practical solutions from incomplete information
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or other technical organizations
- Experience improving or standardizing internal tools, workflows, or tracking methods
- Experience building or refining cost models in manufacturing or hardware-related environments, including understanding variable cost, fixed cost, capital allocation, burden rates, scrap/yield, and labor costing
- Familiarity with project/work-tracking tools such as Planview, Smartsheet, Quickbase, Microsoft Project, or similar systems
- Experience using AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate analysis, scripting, or tool development
