Job Summary:

  • We are seeking an Engineer Technical Analyst to support the Grid Management Department, specifically within the Grid Operations team. This role focuses on outage data quality, analysis, and correction activities within the Outage Management System (OMS). The ideal candidate will have a technical background with experience in engineering, utilities, dispatch operations, data analysis, or related technical fields.
  • The Engineer Technical Analyst will analyze outage events, validate system data, perform corrections, and ensure accurate outage reporting and metrics. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operations environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and validate outage information within the Outage Management System (OMS).
  • Perform data quality reviews and corrections to ensure accurate outage records, asset information, and event timelines.
  • Investigate outage events by reviewing start/stop times, customer reports, field updates, and system records.
  • Support outage reporting accuracy and maintain data integrity for operational metrics.
  • Assist Grid Operations teams with administrative and technical support activities.
  • Work closely with dispatch operators, quality engineers, and field operations teams.
  • Review outage tickets and identify discrepancies requiring correction.
  • Support storm restoration activities and assist with outage-related data analysis.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis.
  • Apply critical thinking and decision-making skills to resolve data issues with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Construction Technology, or related technical discipline OR
  • Associate degree with 2+ years of technical experience OR
  • High school diploma/GED with 4+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • Minimum 2+ years of technical work experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced operations environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, maps, or drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Outage Management Systems (OMS).
  • Utility, electric distribution, or grid operations experience.
  • Dispatch, emergency response, or coordination experience.
  • Experience with data quality, reporting, or technical analysis.
  • Construction technology or electrical background.
  • Experience supporting storm restoration activities.
  • Previous experience with electric utility companies (DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, or similar).

Work Schedule:

  • Onsite in Grand Rapids, MI
  • Monday-Friday schedule or 4 days/week, 10-hour shifts.
  • No field work required; role is office-based.
  • Travel to Jackson, MI may occasionally be required (mileage reimbursement provided).

Training:

  • Initial eLearning and online training.
  • Weeks 2–4: Shadow dispatch operators and learn OMS navigation.
  • Week 5: Work with quality engineers supporting outage correction activities.

Interview Process:

  • Microsoft Teams interview.
  • 45-minute panel interview with hiring manager and team member.

Additional Requirement:

Drug screening may be required for this position.
