Position Overview:

Reporting into the Assistant Vice President, Data Governance, the Director, Data Risk & Governance Reporting is responsible for establishing and leading CIBC Mellon’s enterprise data risk capability, ensuring that data assets are appropriately governed, protected, and monitored in alignment with the Data & Records Governance Policy.

This role focuses on enabling visibility, accountability, and maturity across data risk domains through structured monitoring, reporting, and business engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • • Oversee second line data risk management across core domains (governance, quality, lineage, usage, incidents, reconciliation, records management, and data security in partnership with Cybersecurity), ensuring alignment with the Data & Records Governance Policy and clear ownership/accountability.
  • • Develop and monitor enterprise data risk and quality metrics, oversee data quality, incident management, and control effectiveness to ensure compliance with policy requirements.
  • • Design and deliver enterprise dashboards and reports on data risk exposure, quality performance, and trends, providing actionable insights to senior leadership and governance committees.
  • • Integrate data risk management into business processes by partnering with Risk, Cybersecurity, and Technology teams to align controls, clarify accountabilities, and eliminate gaps.
  • • Drive adoption of policy-aligned data practices across business units, including ownership accountability, data classification, and DLP awareness.
  • • Lead DCAM maturity advancement by translating policy into measurable capabilities and supporting scalable Data Risk & Management program development.
  • • Perform independent reviews and assessments on the adequacy of relevant Business Unit Programs to ensure adherence to corporate standards.
  • • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes
  • • Manage a team responsible for data risk analysis, reporting, dashboard delivery, and business engagement.
  • • Perform people management responsibilities; set performance objectives for direct reports, conduct performance reviews, train, coach, mentor, motivate, lead, and recruit new staff.
  • • Oversee all aspects of resource management (selection, training and development, performance management, retention, recognition) and maintain current staff information such as current headcount, budgeted headcount, turnover, staff salaries, incentive/merit information and staff organizational charts so that service disruptions are minimized

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
  • • 10+ years in data governance, data risk, or risk management (financial services preferred)
  • • Data Governance certification is highly desirable
  • Specific Knowledge & Skills (not preferred or an asset)
  • • Strong understanding of:
  • o Data lifecycle management
  • o Data quality and control frameworks
  • o Regulatory expectations (e.g., OSFI E-21)
  • • Experience building enterprise dashboards and metrics frameworks
  • • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, with desired skills in provincial and federal privacy legislation knowledge (PIPEDA, PIPA, Law25, etc.).
  • • Proven experience in project and change management, including leading cross-functional teams
  • • Experience in managing personnel in governance contexts, including education and training.
  • • Understanding of data security tools and practices, including data encryption and masking techniques to secure sensitive information.
  • • Strong communication and strategy development skills.
  • • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills

Job Specific Competencies:

  • - The base salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $168,000 dependent on relevant experience.
