About The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology US Pharmaceutical Distribution (USPD) Decision Intelligence organization. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and optimization of USPD data products that drive strategic decision-making and operational excellence. As a key leader, you will set the technical vision, manage high-performing teams, and align data strategies with overarching business objectives. Your expertise will be instrumental in managing large-scale data products built on modern data stacks, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and AI-ready. You will collaborate extensively with stakeholders across various functions to ensure data capabilities meet business needs and adhere to governance and security standards. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of healthcare data infrastructure while leading innovative projects that impact millions of lives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 12 years of professional experience in related IT fields, with at least 4 years in leadership, planning, and communication roles. A master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field is required. Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Databricks Professional Data Engineer, and Professional ML Practitioner are highly desirable. Proven experience in architecting AI-First Data Platforms, leveraging Generative AI, and implementing RAG-ready architectures is essential. Candidates should demonstrate deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, Databricks, and modern data architectures, including Lakehouse and Medallion patterns. Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, SQL, and .NET, along with a robust understanding of data governance, security, and compliance, are critical. Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, or manufacturing will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

• Partner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define and execute the data architecture vision and strategic roadmap.
• Drive innovation by adopting emerging technologies and platform capabilities to maintain a competitive edge.
• Establish data engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization.

Technical Excellence

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, AI-ready data products leveraging the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
• Lead the implementation of advanced data processing workflows using Databricks, supporting machine learning and real-time analytics.

Organizational Leadership

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data engineering directors and technical specialists.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Develop talent through training programs, career progression pathways, and engineering excellence initiatives.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the organization.

Operational Excellence

• Lead the delivery of USPD data engineering products, ensuring high uptime, optimal performance, and cost efficiency.
• Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities for mission-critical systems.
• Partner with enterprise teams to automate deployment processes, incorporate AI accelerators, and adopt DevOps best practices.
• Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize costs and value.
• Leverage AI in the data engineering lifecycle to accelerate code generation, design robust data pipelines, and support petabyte-scale data operations.
• Ensure data platform security, compliance, and performance across all environments.
