Temporary Desktop Support Technician (Contract-to-Hire)

Overview

A leading professional services organization is seeking a Desktop Support Technician to join its Washington, DC team in a contract-to-hire capacity. This role is responsible for providing high-level technical support to end users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing help desk tickets, and supporting a wide range of desktop technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and experience supporting users in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support for desktops, laptops, monitors, docking stations, keyboards, mice, printers, and other peripheral devices
  • Monitor, prioritize, and resolve help desk tickets and escalated support requests
  • Support conference room A/V systems and video conferencing technologies
  • Perform laptop imaging, software deployment, system configuration, and data migration activities
  • Facilitate employee onboarding by preparing equipment, deploying hardware, and providing end-user training
  • Support password resets, account lockouts, and user account administration
  • Troubleshoot printer issues and coordinate vendor repair services
  • Maintain accurate hardware and software inventories and conduct regular audits
  • Support company-issued mobile devices and endpoint technologies
  • Collaborate with HR and IT teams on employee onboarding, offboarding, office moves, and technology changes
  • Assist with desktop security initiatives and technology testing efforts
  • Provide support for infrastructure and networking-related projects as needed
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and occasional weekend support coverage
  • Document processes, procedures, and technical solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • A+, MCP, or similar technical certifications preferred
  • 5+ years of desktop support or end-user support experience
  • Experience supporting:
  • Windows 11 Enterprise
  • Microsoft 365
  • Active Directory
  • Apple iOS devices
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Microsoft Autopilot
  • VPN connectivity
  • Remote Desktop (RDP)
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
  • Laptop and desktop hardware
  • Printer troubleshooting and support
  • Experience with hardware configurations, including docking station technologies
  • Knowledge of LAN/WLAN networking concepts
  • Familiarity with endpoint security and antivirus tools
  • Experience with help desk ticketing systems
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Must be comfortable working occasional evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to provide remote support and participate in an on-call rotation
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Must handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately

Compensation

  • Contract-to-hire opportunity
  • Target salary conversion range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Opportunity for long-term employment and benefits upon conversion
