About The Role
Our client is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join their team as an independent remote employee. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that integrates data science and machine learning into the private equity investment process. As a Data Scientist, you will be instrumental in providing unparalleled access to alternative data sources and proprietary data from portfolio companies. Your insights will influence high-stakes investment decisions, impacting billions of dollars in assets under management. The position allows for ownership of key processes such as due diligence, sourcing efforts, and portfolio support initiatives, thereby enabling you to shape strategic investment outcomes. Collaborating with a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to AI/ML innovation, you will be at the forefront of developing tactical workflows that enhance investment performance and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a bachelor's degree or higher in a highly quantitative or relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Finance. Equivalent professional experience in data science or related disciplines will also be considered. Candidates must demonstrate experience with machine learning techniques, including natural language processing, random forests, linear regression, and predictive modeling. Proficiency in Python programming is essential, along with the ability to handle terabyte-sized datasets, discover hidden patterns, and collaborate effectively with management to develop impactful models. A strong interest in the private equity and venture capital space, coupled with a passion for data-driven decision-making, is highly desirable. This role requires candidates to be located in proximity to New York City, with a requirement to work in the client’s office three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop predictive models and proprietary analytics from large datasets utilizing advanced queries, filters, and data visualization tools to extract meaningful insights.
- Create valuable insights directly with stakeholders to inform strategic investment decisions and operational improvements.
- Architect and oversee analytical projects from conceptualization through implementation, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
- Leverage alternative data sources to algorithmically identify the most promising investment opportunities for clients.
- Conduct comprehensive competitive analysis to evaluate the soundness of potential investments using all relevant data sources.
- Utilize ground-truth data from portfolio companies to enhance business outcomes, including automated lead generation, enrichment, forecasting, and churn modeling.
