The Strategic Data Scientist at CoverMyMeds makes a meaningful contribution to the success of our company. This role contributes to value proposition refinement and supports key customer teams by providing world-class analytics and insight into our vast store of live data. The SDS will focus on maximizing time spent on high-value, client-impacting insights by prioritizing work that directly drives commercial outcomes.

This position collaborates extensively with business units and channels across the company and supports the business goals of external clients.

  • Build trusted relationships with CSTs and external clients by using data stories to demonstrate the value of CMM products.
  • Deliver proactive analyses of portfolio performance, customer needs, and business risks or opportunities, including market and industry events.
  • Apply statistical methods and predictive modeling to analyze product data, identify drivers, and forecast outcomes.
  • Monitor portfolio health, provide stakeholder updates and business reviews, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Present clear, actionable insights through concise client-facing visuals and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product value and analytical efficiency.
  • Support complex client requests and issue escalations in partnership with account teams.
  • Contribute insights that inform strategic and tactical decisions across competitive positioning, product design, analytics, and operations.
  • Develop expertise in CoverMyMeds, the pharmaceutical industry, and the business context of supported accounts.

Note: Priority will be given to candidates residing in the Columbus, OH metropolitan area.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in data analytics, business, public health, or related field; healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in an analytics role within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Understanding of data science methodologies including decision trees, multivariate analysis, segmentation modeling, factor analysis, regression analysis, forecasting, machine learning, etc.
  • Experience or understanding of statistical software such as PYTHON, R, MATLAB, SAS, etc.
  • Curious problem solver by nature; able to quickly make sense of complex data issues.
  • Driven, self-motivated, and a team player adept at managing competing priorities.
  • Experience with data mining, analysis, and providing insights.
  • Adept at creating queries, writing reports, and presenting findings.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in SQL.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, etc.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to manage expectations and convey complex insights clearly.

Preferred Skills

  • Industry expertise, particularly in Insurance, Pharmaceutical, or Healthcare sectors.
  • Strong collaboration skills, including leading without direct authority, building cross-functional relationships, and listening to diverse perspectives.
  • Passion for improving US healthcare and a desire to contribute to a team focused on enabling healthier lives through data-driven solutions.

Benefits

At McKesson, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package as part of our Total Rewards program. Compensation is determined based on factors such as performance, experience, skills, and market conditions. The base pay range for this position is $108,800 to $181,300. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for bonuses, long-term incentives, and other benefits.
