Job Type
Position Group
  • Data Scientist - Analytics Associate
  • Department: Dracoe HQ
  • Reports To: Chief Analysis Officer
  • About Dracoe
  • Dracoe is a North Carolina-based start-up focusing on designing, manufacturing and sustaining small drones and their associated software. Dracoe is currently focused on defense applications for drones. Applicants should not only be tolerant of that focus; they should be proud to support the US military.
  • Role
  • Data sits at the heart of Dracoe’s decision-making. The successful candidate will be a critical cog in setting Dracoe’s data strategy. This is an opportunity to shape a fast-moving, impactful company; a company intent on embracing change and harnessing bleeding-edge technology.
  • We need to use telemetry data to improve the effectiveness and reliability of our drones. We need to demonstrate the value of post-mission analytics to our customers and we need to deliver this capability as a service. We need to use data to inform decisions around the installation of automation cells on our manufacturing lines. Data-related challenges – and opportunities – are everywhere.
  • We are looking for an Analytics Associate to come on this journey with us. This is our first data science hire. Our intent is that this job holder will – in time – develop into the head of a data science team. We need someone who can work end-to-end: sourcing, cleaning and structuring data, analyzing data, and communicating the output to internal or external stakeholders.
  • We want someone with a very strong academic background, and – ideally – 2-3 years of post-College job experience. A successful candidate will need to combine intellectual firepower with the ability to solve real-world problems. Solutions need to be anchored in pragmatism.
  • Although we have a preference for someone who can work at our facility in Aberdeen, North Carolina, for an exceptional candidate, this is not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Chief Analytics Officer to devise systems for data collection and analysis across Dracoe to help internal teams to understand performance, improve output and make better decisions.
  • Focus on ways that Dracoe can turn data analysis into a product for our customers. Drive projects that will leverage data to transform our customers’ ability to make vital decisions.
  • Play a key role in down-selecting SaaS tools and AI-native technologies that will assist Dracoe to secure and retain an information advantage. Prepare the ground for the integration of future technologies by taking ownership of Dracoe’s ontology (i.e. cross-company data dictionary).
  • Work flexibly on ad hoc analytical projects as the needs of the business evolve. Be adaptable and independent, able to drive varied projects forward with vigor and enthusiasm.
  • QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in data science, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
