Job Title:- Data Governance Specialist

Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Strategy & Framework
- Design, implement, and continuously improve the enterprise data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Define and maintain data governance roadmap aligned with organizational strategy and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Champion a data stewardship culture by partnering with business units to assign and develop data stewards and data owners.
Data Quality & Stewardship
- Establish data quality rules, metrics, and KPIs; oversee remediation efforts for data quality issues across clinical and operational systems.
- Lead data quality assessments, audits, and root cause analyses across EHR, claims, lab, and administrative data.
- Develop and manage data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata repositories.
Regulatory Compliance & Privacy
- Ensure data governance practices are compliant with HIPAA, HITECH, 21st Century Cures Act, CMS Interoperability rules, and other applicable regulations.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams on data-related risk assessments, breach investigations, and policy updates.
- Support audit readiness and respond to internal/external data audits.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a primary liaison between IT, clinical informatics, compliance, and operational leadership on data governance matters.
- Present data governance metrics, issues, and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees.
- Facilitate Data Governance Council meetings, including agenda development and documentation of decisions.
Technology & Tools
- Administer and optimize data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon, or equivalent).
- Collaborate with data engineering and BI teams to embed governance controls into data pipelines and reporting solutions.
- Monitor and enforce data access controls in collaboration with IT Security and Identity Management teams.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or healthcare data roles, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Deep familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7 FHIR, ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC) and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, HITECH, CMS).
- Hands-on experience with data governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or similar).
- Strong SQL skills and comfort navigating complex healthcare data environments (EHR, claims, ADT, lab systems).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Preferred
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar certification.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in a healthcare context.
- Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK framework.
- Experience supporting Value-Based Care or Population Health programs.
