Data Governance Engineer (US only)

Along with our partner, we are seeking a Data Governance Engineer to own the hands-on administration and day-to-day operation of our partner's data governance and security tooling. This is a hands-on, technical role administering and operating a governance and security tool stack including Snowflake Horizon, Immuta, Anomalo, Alation, identity and access integration, internal generative AI tools, and ingest-time tagging tools. Working within an agile internal data services team (full-stack, reporting, and data engineers, SREs, product owners, Data Governance Lead, and executive stakeholders), this role serves as the first line of support for alerts, configuration issues, and access questions, translating program policy into working technical controls.

• Schedule: Hybrid, 4 days/week onsite – PT timezone

Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Impact:

• Platform Security & Administration: Administer and configure Snowflake Horizon and native Snowflake security/governance features (RBAC, masking, object tagging) as a light administrator.
• Access Control & Policy Implementation: Implement and maintain access governance policies in Immuta, translating governance and security requirements into working technical controls.
• Data Quality & Catalog Management: Configure, tune, and monitor data quality checks (Anomalo) and enrich the data catalog (Alation) so datasets are discoverable, described, and classified.
• Tooling Innovation & Integration: Adopt internal AI description generation tools and partner with platform engineering to test/roll out ingest-time tagging tools.
• Operational Support & Automation: Act as first line of support for governance tools, automate/codify configurations (CI/CD), document runbooks, and support IAM workflows.
• Vendor Evaluation & Strategy: Participate in vendor evaluations, technical POCs, and recommend emerging governance/security tooling as the stack evolves.

Candidate Qualifications:

• Top Must-Have Requirements:
• 3+ years of data engineering, software engineering, or platform engineering experience.
• Strong working proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including RBAC, masking, and object tagging.
• Experience owning day-to-day operations, troubleshooting production systems, and quickly learning unfamiliar tools.
• Working knowledge of core data governance concepts: catalogs, critical data elements, data quality rules/metrics, and data classification.
• Comfortable learning unfamiliar tools quickly from documentation and vendor support, and getting them into working order.
• Experience partnering with a program or product lead to turn policy and requirements into technical implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with data access governance tooling (Immuta, SecuPi) and data quality tooling (Anomalo, Monte Carlo, or similar).
• Experience with data catalogs (Alation, Collibra, Purview) and IAM tooling (SailPoint, Okta).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD (Terraform) applied to platform/security configuration.
• Familiarity with privacy/compliance/audit frameworks and AI-assisted data documentation or LLM access patterns.
