About The Role

The Senior Data Engineer role at Visa involves collaborating closely with diverse stakeholders, including product teams, business partners, and cybersecurity units, to define and refine requirements for data-driven features and products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the data ecosystem, security protocols, privacy policies, and data retention standards necessary to support business objectives and product functionalities. They will be responsible for creating and documenting technical designs for data components, identifying system architecture needs, and proposing technical solutions to peers. Staying current with emerging market trends and industry dynamics is essential, as the role requires applying this knowledge to foster innovation while ensuring the safety and security of all data components. Digital fluency, including familiarity with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot), is vital to support ongoing work and process improvements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or at least 5+ years of relevant experience without a degree. Preferred qualifications include over four years of specialized experience in data engineering, with demonstrated ability to present technical solutions effectively to peers. Candidates should have a proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and define technical solutions, designing and documenting technical components for data pipelines or products, and implementing secure coding practices. Experience in conducting unit testing, participating in user acceptance testing, and building automation tools for data processes is essential. Additionally, proficiency in creating complex queries, extracting and transforming data, ensuring data quality, monitoring performance, troubleshooting pipeline issues, and supporting software upgrades and security patches is highly desirable. Staying updated with industry trends and participating in code reviews or mentoring peers further strengthen a candidate’s profile.

Responsibilities

The Senior Data Engineer will proactively collaborate with stakeholders to clarify project requirements, identify key product stakeholders, and review technical specifications. They will design and document data components, ensuring adherence to security and privacy standards. The role involves implementing high-quality code following best practices, participating in code reviews, and applying feedback to improve system robustness. The engineer will conduct unit testing, security scans, and participate in user acceptance testing to validate data solutions. Building tools and automation processes for transforming, managing, and monitoring data pipelines will be a core function. This includes creating efficient queries for data extraction, orchestrating data workflows, and validating data integrity. The role also entails troubleshooting pipeline issues, providing guidance for problem resolution, and supporting routine client requests requiring technical expertise. Additionally, the engineer will assist with software upgrades, security patches, and performance optimization to ensure the stability and security of data systems. Staying current with industry trends and applying innovative solutions to enhance data processes are vital components of the role.
