About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance data pipelines and platforms that support critical healthcare data operations. You will analyze complex business and technical requirements to create end-to-end data solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and data serving layers. Your expertise will be vital in optimizing data workflows for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, ensuring the integrity and security of sensitive healthcare data.

This position offers the flexibility of 100% telecommuting from any location within the United States, allowing you to work remotely while contributing to impactful projects that improve healthcare delivery. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, QA, and system owners, to define data contracts, SLAs, and ensure timely, accurate data delivery. Your role will also involve debugging complex data issues, implementing advanced Delta Lake features, and enforcing data governance standards to maintain compliance and security.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with at least five years of relevant experience. Demonstrated expertise in SQL, Java, Python, MySQL, and data processing platforms such as Databricks is essential. Experience managing data storage and retrieval using Amazon S3, version control with GitLab, and integrating external services via API calls is required. Familiarity with automated testing tools like Katalon and strong troubleshooting skills are also necessary to succeed in this role.

Applicants must have at least two years of proven experience in each of the following areas:

  • Debugging and resolving application issues using SQL
  • Building and enhancing applications with Java and Python
  • Writing queries to investigate and resolve data issues with MySQL
  • Developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines in Databricks
  • Managing data storage and workflows with Amazon S3
  • Version controlling code and collaborating via GitLab
  • Integrating external services through API calls and troubleshooting data flows
  • Automating application testing and validation using Katalon

A strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards within cloud environments is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance data pipelines and platforms that support healthcare analytics and operations.

Analyze business and technical requirements to create comprehensive end-to-end data solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and serving layers.

Lead the design and implementation of complex ETL/ELT workflows, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Implement advanced Delta Lake capabilities such as schema enforcement, schema evolution, and data versioning to enhance data quality and traceability.

Collaborate with Product, QA, and upstream system teams to define data contracts, SLAs, and ensure reliable, timely data delivery.

Debug and resolve complex data issues involving distributed processing, increasing data volumes, latency challenges, and upstream system changes.

Enforce data governance, security, and compliance standards within Databricks, including access controls and cataloging solutions.

Participate in code reviews, identify systemic issues, and propose improvements to data pipelines, orchestration, deployment, and observability processes.

Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge across teams, and contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering practices.
