About The Role
The Utah Transit Authority is seeking a skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining UTA's business intelligence data and reporting solutions. Your primary focus will be to deliver trusted metrics and actionable insights that support decision-making across the agency. Collaborating closely with both business and technical stakeholders, you will translate analytics needs into reliable data models, curated datasets, and visually compelling dashboards and visualizations. Your work will empower frontline teams, management, and executive leadership to make informed decisions that enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
The BI Analyst will also play a crucial role in supporting data governance and data quality initiatives, ensuring the appropriate use, definitions, and stewardship of enterprise data. Developing documentation, standards, and enablement processes will be key to fostering responsible self-service reporting and analytics adoption. Additionally, the role involves providing backup support for BI reporting platforms, including scheduling, publishing, quality assurance, and monitoring of automated reports and ETL processes. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education and experience aligned with the following qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience will also be considered, with UTA reserving the right to determine equivalencies.
- 2-3 years of experience in data analytics, with demonstrated proficiency in data visualization software such as Information Builders or similar tools.
- Experience in data modeling, data scrubbing, and conducting data quality reviews.
- Proven ability to work with large, enterprise-wide data sets and critical business metrics.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, relational database concepts, and data query tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Business Intelligence stack, including Fabric, Power BI, TSQL, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
- Excellent analytical skills and business acumen, with the ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- A customer-focused mindset and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Self-motivated with strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Willingness to work occasional unscheduled hours or weekends to support critical agency needs.
- Ability to travel locally to support remote business units as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain business intelligence data models, datasets, dashboards, and visualizations that meet organizational needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit and understand business requirements, translating them into effective technical solutions.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through regular reviews, data scrubbing, and validation processes.
- Support data governance initiatives by adhering to data definitions, standards, and stewardship practices.
- Create comprehensive documentation, standards, and enablement resources to facilitate user adoption of BI tools and promote responsible self-service reporting.
- Provide backup support for BI reporting platforms, including scheduling, publishing, and quality assurance of automated reports.
- Monitor and troubleshoot ETL processes and reporting workflows to ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports.
- Engage with end-users to provide training, support, and insights that enhance data-driven decision-making.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in business intelligence and data analytics.
