About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance data pipelines and data platforms that support our healthcare data initiatives. You will analyze complex business and technical requirements to create end-to-end data solutions that include data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and serving layers. Your expertise will help optimize data workflows for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, ensuring our data systems meet the evolving needs of the organization.

The Data Engineer will lead the implementation of advanced Delta Lake features such as schema enforcement, schema evolution, and data versioning. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including Product, Quality Assurance, and upstream system owners—is essential to define data contracts, establish SLAs, and ensure the timely and accurate delivery of data. You will troubleshoot complex data issues involving distributed processing, increasing data volumes, latency challenges, and upstream system changes. Enforcing data governance, security, and compliance standards within Databricks, along with participating in design and code reviews, will be integral to maintaining data integrity and system robustness. Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team knowledge sharing are also key aspects of this role. This position offers the flexibility of 100% telecommuting from any location within the United States.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with at least five (5) years of relevant experience. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • SQL for debugging and resolving application-related issues
  • Java for building and enhancing applications
  • Python for developing and improving data processing workflows
  • MySQL for querying and troubleshooting data issues
  • Databricks for building and maintaining scalable data pipelines
  • Amazon S3 for managing data storage and retrieval
  • GitLab for version control and collaborative development
  • API integrations for connecting external services and troubleshooting data flows
  • Katalon for automating application testing and validation

Candidates should also demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance data pipelines and platforms to support healthcare data solutions.
  • Analyzing business and technical requirements to create comprehensive end-to-end data solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, and modeling.
  • Leading the implementation of complex ETL/ELT workflows, optimizing for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Implementing advanced Delta Lake features such as schema enforcement, schema evolution, and data versioning to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define data contracts, SLAs, and ensure reliable data delivery.
  • Debugging complex data issues involving distributed processing, increasing data volumes, and upstream system changes.
  • Enforcing data governance, security, and compliance standards within Databricks, including access controls and cataloging solutions.
  • Participating in design and code reviews, identifying systemic issues, and proposing improvements to data pipelines, orchestration, deployment, and observability.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge to foster a collaborative team environment.
