About The Role
We are seeking a talented mid-level SQL Server Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing and optimizing our data infrastructure, ensuring seamless data flow from collection to reporting. Your expertise will help improve database performance, support data-driven decision-making, and enhance our overall data strategy. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of SQL Server, database design, and data pipeline management, with a passion for continuous learning and problem-solving. This position is fully on-site at our St. Peters headquarters, requiring daily in-office presence to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including software engineers and data scientists.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or equivalent work experience. A minimum of four years of experience as a SQL Server Data Engineer is essential, along with a deep understanding of SQL, database normalization, and design principles. Candidates should have at least two years of experience creating, managing, and monitoring data pipelines using ETL/ELT processes. Familiarity with SQL Server internals such as buffer pool, execution plans, indexing, and parallelism is required. Experience with programming languages like C# or Python is preferred, as well as familiarity with Business Intelligence tools for data visualization and reporting. A positive attitude, strong desire to learn, and excellent problem-solving skills are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new databases, optimize existing ones, and write complex SQL queries and Transact-SQL (T-SQL) stored procedures to support business needs.
- Troubleshoot database issues, document problems, and implement effective and scalable solutions to ensure system stability and performance.
- Perform performance tuning on slow-running queries through re-writing, indexing, and refining database schemas.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers and data scientists to enhance data flow, collection, processing, and reporting pipelines.
- Gather requirements from stakeholders, document specifications, and implement solutions that align with business objectives.
- Monitor database health, proactively identify potential issues, and take corrective actions to prevent system failures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and tools relevant to data engineering and database management.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance technical skills and industry knowledge.
