Essential Skills & Experience
15–20 years of experience in data engineering and data architecture, including 4+ years owning enterprise-scale data architecture.
Expert-level enterprise data modelling: conceptual, logical and physical modelling.
Strong knowledge of 3NF, dimensional modelling, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions, grain and key design.
Experience designing canonical / enterprise data models across multiple source systems.
Strong experience in data harmonisation, source-of-record decisions and reusable enterprise datasets.
Experience with data products, data mesh and contract-based data delivery.
Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform data services:
BigQuery
Cloud Storage
Dataflow / Dataproc
Cloud Composer / Airflow
Pub/Sub
Dataplex / enterprise data catalogues
Advanced SQL, including large-scale query optimisation, partitioning, clustering and cost optimisation.
Strong Python skills for data engineering and production pipeline development/review.
Experience with dbt and modern data transformation frameworks.
Experience with CI/CD for data platforms, including branching, automated testing, environment promotion and release management.
Strong understanding of enterprise BI consumption, particularly Tableau.
Experience reconciling BI outputs with data lake / warehouse data.
Strong experience working with ERP data; SAP strongly preferred.
Experience with SAP data across sales, billing, delivery, general ledger and inventory.
Experience with HR, finance and warehouse-management data sources, including PeopleSoft.
Strong understanding of business processes including Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report and Inventory Management.
Experience designing data quality frameworks covering freshness, completeness, reconciliation, null rates and schema drift.
Experience with data pipeline observability, monitoring, alerting and platform stability KPIs.
Strong knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, data dictionaries and data cataloguing.
Experience with enterprise data governance and data management frameworks.
Client-facing experience with enterprise architects, technology leaders and senior business stakeholders.
Experience managing onsite/offshore or distributed data engineering teams.
Strong Agile delivery experience, including sprint-based delivery, change control and release management.
Excellent technical documentation and written communication skills.
