About The Role
The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst is a vital member of the Research Analytics and Data Literacy (RAD) team within Sentara Enterprise Analytics. This fully remote position supports Sentara's research initiatives in partnership with the Sentara Health Research Center (SHRC). The role focuses on retrospective clinical and population health research, providing comprehensive analytic support from study conception through to manuscript development and dissemination. The Senior Analyst collaborates closely with physician investigators, clinical leaders, and research stakeholders to assess the feasibility of research projects, extract and curate relevant data, perform advanced statistical analyses, and develop publishable outputs.
Ideal candidates will possess strong expertise in healthcare data, including electronic health records (EHR), clinical registries, and research methodologies. The role requires a service-oriented mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate complex clinical questions into actionable analytical plans. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field (required)
- Master's degree in a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years of healthcare analytics or research experience
- Strong proficiency in SQL; experience with Excel, Databricks, Python, or R preferred
- Knowledge of EHR data (Epic), clinical coding, and research methods
- Experience with REDCap, IRB processes, and manuscript support (preferred)
- Background in academic medicine or health system research (preferred)
- No specific certification or licensure required
Responsibilities
- Assess research feasibility and translate clinical questions into detailed analytic plans
- Extract, validate, and manage data from sources such as Epic, Databricks, and other repositories
- Perform data cleaning, quality assurance, and statistical analyses to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Support IRB submissions and ensure compliance with data governance and privacy standards
- Create tables, figures, and visualizations to support research manuscripts and presentations
- Collaborate with investigators on interpreting results, preparing abstracts, and disseminating findings
