About The Role

The Staff Data Analyst will be an integral part of the Block Compliance Analytics team, responsible for leveraging data to enhance the organization’s compliance efforts. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in Financial Crimes and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) domains. The successful candidate will develop and lead data-driven strategies to quantify compliance risks, improve operational effectiveness, and communicate insights to both internal leadership and external regulators. The role involves designing and executing complex data analyses, establishing data strategies for regulatory engagements, and influencing compliance and product roadmaps through actionable insights. As a leader within the organization, you will collaborate across departments, including legal, engineering, and compliance, to ensure that data initiatives align with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly contribute to redefining the financial landscape by enabling Block to proactively address compliance challenges and uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6+ years with a Master's degree; or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in Compliance and AML domains.
• Expert proficiency in SQL and data analysis/visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker.
• Extensive experience in ETL development and data pipeline management.
• Proven ability to solve large, complex problems with minimal guidance, utilizing broad technical expertise.
• Strong project management skills with a vision to manage multiple high-impact workstreams in a dynamic environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data insights clearly and persuasively.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a polished, professional approach to work.
• Preferred but not required: CAMS or other AML certifications.
• Experience in FinTech, consulting, or with financial crimes compliance systems and technologies.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Python, R, or Prefect is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of data strategies for regulatory engagements, including ETL processes, source data validation, and analysis.
• Translate regulatory expectations and commitments into actionable data initiatives that influence compliance and product development strategies.
• Utilize raw data to educate internal teams and external partners on the impact of new regulations, policies, or environmental changes affecting the compliance program.
• Collaborate closely with legal, engineering, and compliance teams to inform the strategic design of essential compliance systems and processes.
• Establish yourself as a thought leader by connecting insights to actionable outcomes through effective communication and cross-functional alignment.
• Leverage your subject matter expertise to educate, coach, and influence stakeholders across the organization, supporting the long-term success of Block’s compliance initiatives.
• Manage multiple high-impact workstreams, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve data quality, analysis techniques, and reporting processes to enhance overall compliance effectiveness.
