- Role Description The Writer is a full-time, on-site role based in the San Francisco Bay Area, supporting USC’s communication and storytelling initiatives. The role involves researching and crafting clear, engaging written content for a range of audiences and channels, such as articles, web pages, newsletters, and reports. Day-to-day responsibilities include interviewing subject matter experts, developing content outlines, drafting and revising copy, and ensuring consistency with USC’s brand voice and guidelines. The Writer collaborates with communications, marketing, and academic teams to translate complex information into accessible narratives, while meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects. The position also includes basic fact-checking, alignment with editorial standards, and adapting content for digital platforms.
- Qualifications
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Experience in research and information gathering, including interviewing stakeholders and synthesizing complex topics into concise narratives.
- Ability to adapt tone and style to different formats (web content, articles, reports, and promotional materials) while maintaining brand consistency.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools, basic content management systems, and best practices for readability and accessibility.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience writing for higher education, research institutions, or mission-driven organizations is preferred.
