Research Associate / Health Care Data Analyst

About the Role

• The Research Associate / Health Care Data Analyst provides high-level professional claims analytics work related to Medicaid and conducts quantitative analyses supporting health care projects and research activities. The role contributes to research, evaluation, and policy analysis supporting health care delivery system reform, health services, maternal and child health, big data analytics, data visualisation, and health policy initiatives.
• You will lead the ongoing development and maintenance of the Institute’s analytic and data management systems while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, policy analysts, biostatisticians, data scientists, and data visualisation specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct quantitative analyses for health care projects and research activities.
• Perform claims analytics related to Medicaid.
• Lead the ongoing development and maintenance of analytic and data management systems.
• Manage and analyse health care claims data, including Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance data.
• Work with large relational databases and ETL processes.
• Use a SAS-based Decision Support System.
• Support health services research, health program and policy evaluation, and health care delivery system reform.
• Maintain thorough documentation of decisions, methods, and project work.
• Communicate complex analytical processes to diverse audiences.
• Apply rigorous research methods to support objective, accurate, and reproducible findings.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in health services research, public health, or health care.
• Experience administering large relational databases.
• Demonstrated experience managing and analysing health care claims data, such as Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance data.
• Strong proficiency in SAS.
• Experience with ETL processes.
• Ability to work within a SAS-based Decision Support System.
• Interest in public health or issues relevant to health services research and health program or policy evaluation.
• Sound judgment and the ability to document decision-making processes thoroughly.
• Exemplary communication skills and the ability to explain complex processes to diverse audiences.
• Commitment to rigorous research methods, objectivity, accuracy, and reproducibility of results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of structuring data for Tableau.
• Knowledge of R, Python, or another scripting language.
• Strong SQL knowledge.
