Position Group
  • Business Intelligence Analyst
  • Enterprise Data Platform | Fuel Distribution Industry
  • Location 100% Remote
  • Employment TypeFull-Time
  • Compensation Commensurate with experience
  • Role Summary
  • The Enterprise Data Platform's architecture is roughly 90% designed and the organization is now expanding it domain by domain. This role sits on the business side of that effort — translating operational systems and business rules into documented business domains, validating data, and building the Power BI reporting and analytics that consume the platform's Gold-layer models.
  • This is not a traditional, request-driven Power BI role. Reports and dashboards here are built as consumers of governed, reusable business models rather than one-off deliverables, so the ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with data engineering and thinks about maintainability and consistency across domains, not just the next dashboard.
  • Overview of the Project
  • We are building an Enterprise Data Platform for a mid-sized fuel distribution company using Microsoft Fabric. The objective is to replace traditional report-by-report development with a governed enterprise reporting platform that supports operational reporting, executive dashboards, and future analytics.
  • The platform architecture has already been established and includes:
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • OneLake
  • Bronze, Silver, and Gold Lakehouse architecture
  • Data pipelines
  • GitHub integration
  • Power BI semantic models
  • Power BI Apps
  • We are now entering the next phase of development, which focuses on expanding the platform and building reusable business domains.
  • Current Architecture
  • The reporting architecture follows a traditional medallion design.
  • Operational Systems (PDI, TelePoint, etc.)
  • Bronze Layer – Raw Source Data Ingestion
  • Silver Layer – Data Standardization & Transformation
  • Gold Layer – Reusable Business Data Models
  • Semantic Models (Power BI) – Reports / Dashboards
  • Current Development Strategy
  • Instead of building individual reports as requests are received, we are developing Business Domains.
  • Each domain documents:
  • Business attributes
  • Source tables
  • Table relationships
  • Primary/foreign keys
  • Required reporting fields
  • Existing business rules
  • Existing report usage
  • The completed domain becomes the blueprint for building Bronze ingestion, Silver transformations, Gold business models, and ultimately Power BI reporting.
  • The first domain (Orders) has already been completed and will serve as the template for all future domains.
  • Future domains include:
  • Customers
  • Sites
  • Products
  • Carriers
  • Pricing
  • Freight
  • Accessorial Fees
  • Inventory
  • Invoices
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable
  • General Ledger
  • Position – Business Intelligence Analyst
  • We are looking for someone to focus on the business side of reporting.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Business domain analysis
  • Data validation
  • Business rule documentation
  • Power BI development
  • Semantic models
  • Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
  • KPI development
  • Dashboard design
  • Working directly with business stakeholders
  • Validating data against operational systems
  • This individual will leverage the data platform to develop dashboards and analytics while helping expand our business domain catalog.
  • What Makes This Role Different
  • This is not a traditional Power BI reporting role.
  • We are building an enterprise reporting platform where reusable business models are created first, and reports become consumers of those models. The successful candidates should be comfortable working in a data engineering environment where long-term maintainability, governance, and scalability are as important as delivering individual reports.
