About The Role

The Lead Business Analyst will operate remotely, taking a strategic leadership role in liaising with clients to understand their business needs and translating these into technical solutions. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the insurance industry, particularly in reinsurance and policy administration. The Lead Business Analyst will be responsible for conducting comprehensive business process analysis, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit evaluations to align technology initiatives with business objectives. The role involves developing detailed business specifications for technical teams, facilitating requirements gathering sessions, and ensuring that solutions accurately reflect business needs. The Lead BA will also play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring junior analysts, collaborating closely with project managers, developers, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless project execution. A strong understanding of reinsurance policy administration, especially within the workers’ compensation sector, is essential. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, domain expertise, and the ability to solve complex business problems through innovative solutions. This role may involve travel up to 20% to support client engagements and project implementations.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of business analysis experience within the insurance industry, with a focus on reinsurance products
  • Proven expertise in reinsurance policy administration and workers’ compensation insurance
  • Strong domain knowledge in insurance rating, underwriting, and claims processes
  • Experience leading business process analysis and requirements gathering sessions
  • Proficiency in Use Case modeling, storyboarding, and requirements documentation
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex business concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle, requirements analysis, and design disciplines
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, MS Project, Visio)
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team of Business Analysts
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as required

Responsibilities

  • Lead business process analysis, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit evaluations to align IT solutions with business strategies
  • Serve as the primary client liaison, understanding their needs and translating them into detailed technical requirements
  • Develop comprehensive business specifications and documentation that are understandable to both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Facilitate requirements elaboration sessions, functional user reviews, and user acceptance testing
  • Collaborate with development and quality assurance teams to ensure solutions meet business needs and specifications
  • Identify gaps, opportunities for process improvement, and future enhancement areas to strengthen client relationships and revenue streams
  • Assist project managers in prioritizing tasks, estimating effort, and managing project scope
  • Mentor and guide junior Business Analysts, providing training and support as needed
  • Participate in sales support activities, including demonstrations, RFP responses, and gap analysis studies
  • Ensure all project requirements are properly tracked and managed throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support during functional reviews and testing phases
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in reinsurance and insurance policy administration
