About The Role

The Staff Business Analyst for the PlayStation Store is a senior individual-contributor role based in San Mateo, CA, with remote options available for candidates on the West Coast. This position is integral to the Commercial Development team, focusing on shaping the future of Sony’s Direct-to-Consumer businesses, including PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct. The role involves translating complex commercial opportunities into actionable business requirements, influencing senior stakeholders, and collaborating across various teams such as product, data analytics, data science, and engineering.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial mindset, expertise in business analysis, and experience in digital commerce, subscriptions, or retail environments. This role does not involve product ownership, roadmap management, or delivery oversight but emphasizes decision quality, experimentation, and the commercial impact of initiatives. The Staff Business Analyst will lead high-impact initiatives, facilitate process improvements, and support data-driven decision-making to enhance operational efficiency and revenue growth.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Business Analysis within digital commerce, subscriptions, or retail businesses
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
  • Proven ability to decompose vague business problems into structured questions and clear requirements
  • Strong collaboration skills with product, engineering, and data science teams
  • Experience designing and delivering commerce solutions aligned with business needs
  • Deep understanding of experimentation, measurement, and analytics
  • Financial acumen with the ability to challenge assumptions and build data-driven arguments
  • Expertise in mapping and improving complex business processes
  • Excellent executive-level communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly and credibly
  • Experience with personalization, AI/ML, and decision automation is a plus
  • Familiarity with AI governance, ethics, and responsible data practices is advantageous
  • Experience working in global, cross-functional environments is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex business analysis for high-impact initiatives across digital commerce, personalization, subscriptions, and publishing operations
  • Translate commercial objectives into measurable business requirements and actionable insights
  • Partner with product, engineering, data analytics, and data science teams to ensure product requirements meet business needs and facilitate successful development and deployment
  • Design and execute experiments related to personalization, revenue growth, and operational efficiencies, then evaluate their outcomes
  • Map and analyze business processes, guiding organizational efforts in process improvement and automation to optimize operational performance
  • Influence senior stakeholders through structured problem framing, financial reasoning, and data-supported recommendations
  • Mentor team members on business analysis, AI/ML, and product development methodologies, fostering continuous learning and development
  • Support decision-making processes by providing insights and recommendations based on data analysis and commercial reasoning
