The location in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking talent to fill the position of Business Analyst.

This job is permanent and full-time.

About The Role

The Business Analyst at Domtar reports directly to the controller and plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient delivery and reporting of financial information within the organization. This position is integral to the financial health and strategic planning of the Port Alberni mill, supporting key operational and financial decision-making processes. The Business Analyst is responsible for participating in month-end processes, preparing detailed financial analyses, and assisting in the development of annual operating plans and strategic initiatives.

In this role, the Business Analyst collaborates closely with manufacturing, sales, and corporate teams to support new product development, continuous improvement projects, and cost management strategies. The position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial data effectively to stakeholders at various levels. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing costs, production processes, and financial reporting standards, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the mill's operational success and long-term growth.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Candidates should have between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, reporting, or a similar role. The CPA designation is considered an asset and will enhance a candidate’s suitability for this position. Candidates must demonstrate strong proficiency in financial modeling, variance analysis, and reporting tools. Excellent communication skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and cost accounting principles is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute key month-end functions including production setting, furnish balancing, product cost allocations, grade costing, and product statement preparation and reporting.
  • Prepare and communicate monthly latest view forecasts for the Port Alberni mill, focusing on production settings and furnish balances. Coordinate forecast submissions with Corporate Finance teams in Richmond and Fort Mill.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analyses related to mill operations and product costing to support operational decisions.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational realities.
  • Participate actively in strategic planning processes, emphasizing grade mix, production setting, furnish balancing, and cost management.
  • Support new product development initiatives by working with production and sales teams to evaluate costs and profitability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying, recording, and tracking projects aimed at operational efficiencies.
  • Develop and oversee the annual operating plan for various manufacturing cost elements, including production settings, furnish balances, and grade costing.
  • Provide training and support to new hires and less experienced finance team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable work environment.
