About The Role
The Port Alberni, BC location is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Business Analyst to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. Reporting directly to the controller, the Business Analyst will be responsible for the efficient delivery and reporting of financial information critical to operational decision-making. This role plays a vital part in month-end processes, manufacturing cost analysis, and supporting strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with a focus on understanding the mill’s cost structure and processes. The Business Analyst will collaborate closely with various departments, including production, finance, and corporate teams, to ensure accurate financial reporting and support continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar financial or business analysis role
- CPA designation is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of manufacturing costs, product costing, and financial analysis
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in financial reporting tools and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes
Responsibilities
- Manage month-end closing activities, including production setting, furnish balancing, product cost allocations, and grade costing
- Prepare and analyze product statements and related financial reports
- Coordinate the latest view forecast process, including submissions to Corporate Finance in Richmond and Fort Mill
- Develop and present ad hoc financial analyses to support mill operations and product costing decisions
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of the annual operating budget
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts, focusing on grade mix, production setting, and costing initiatives
- Support new product development assessments, working with production and sales teams to evaluate costs and profitability
- Participate in continuous improvement projects, identifying, recording, and tracking initiatives to enhance operational efficiency
- Assist in the development of the annual operating plan for manufacturing cost elements
- Provide training and support to new hires and less experienced finance staff members
