Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Data Engineer with 10+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud technologies, API development, and AI-driven application integration. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience building scalable data pipelines on AWS, developing and integrating APIs, and implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP) solutions to connect AI applications with enterprise data sources and services.
The candidate should be comfortable working in a hybrid environment in Charlotte, NC, with the ability to attend the final interview in person. Candidates currently located in North Carolina are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data processing solutions using AWS services.
Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows for batch and real-time data processing.
Work with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, EMR, Step Functions, and Kinesis.
Develop, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to support data exchange and application integration.
Design and implement MCP servers and clients to enable AI applications and large language models (LLMs) to securely access enterprise data, APIs, and tools.
Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into existing data engineering platforms and workflows.
Work with Python, SQL, and relevant SDKs to develop data processing logic, APIs, and MCP integrations.
Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and security controls for APIs and MCP services.
Collaborate with data scientists, AI engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Troubleshoot performance issues and ensure data quality, scalability, reliability, and security.
Follow CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), testing, and DevOps best practices.

Required Technical Skills
AWS Data Engineering
Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services, including S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, and Athena.
Expertise in Python, SQL, ETL/ELT development, and data pipeline architecture.
Experience with data lakes, data warehousing, data modeling, and distributed data processing.
Knowledge of streaming and event-driven architectures.
API Development
Strong experience developing REST APIs and microservices.
Hands-on experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
Understanding of API security, authentication, authorization, and integration patterns.
Experience integrating APIs with cloud-based data platforms and enterprise applications.
MCP Development & AI Integration
Practical experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) server/client development or integration.
Understanding of MCP tools, resources, prompts, and protocol-based communication.
Experience connecting LLM-powered applications to enterprise data sources, APIs, and external tools using MCP.
Familiarity with LLMs, AI application frameworks, and agent-based workflows.
Understanding of secure access to enterprise data and tools in AI-enabled applications.
