GH Engage is recruiting an Assistant Data Center Operations Manager for a large-scale mission-critical facility in Portland, Oregon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chief Engineer, Critical Facilities Supervisor, or data center engineering professional looking to progress into a broader operations leadership position.

The role combines technical leadership, people management, critical facilities operations, and infrastructure reliability, supporting the senior site leadership team in maintaining a safe, resilient, and high-performing data center environment.

The Opportunity

• As Assistant Data Center Operations Manager, you'll help lead the day-to-day engineering operation of a 24/7 critical facility.
• You'll provide technical direction to engineers and technicians, oversee maintenance activity, coordinate specialist vendors, support infrastructure projects, and help develop the people and processes required to maintain exceptional facility availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day leadership of data center engineering operations
• Lead, coach, and develop critical facilities engineers and technicians
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance across critical MEP infrastructure
• Coordinate planned maintenance, equipment replacements, and infrastructure upgrades
• Provide technical leadership during abnormal conditions and critical incidents
• Review operating and maintenance procedures for high-risk technical activities
• Manage specialist contractors, vendors, and service partners
• Identify operational risks and implement reliability improvements
• Monitor facility performance using BMS, EPMS, and other building systems
• Support site budgets, forecasting, and capital improvement projects
• Maintain strong standards across safety, compliance, documentation, and operational discipline
• Support the senior operations leadership team with the continued development of site engineering practices

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of direct data center or critical facilities operations experience
• Strong technical knowledge of UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers, power distribution, cooling systems, and building controls
• Previous experience supervising, leading, or mentoring engineers and technicians
• Strong understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance in live critical environments
• Experience managing technical vendors and contractors
• Familiarity with critical operating procedures, electrical safety, and operational risk
• Experience troubleshooting critical electrical or mechanical systems
• Exposure to commissioning and infrastructure upgrades would be advantageous
• Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work on-site in Portland, Oregon

Direct experience with physical mission-critical infrastructure is essential. This is not an IT, cloud, network, or software operations position.
