About The Role
As a Staff AI/ML Engineer within the Embodied AI organization at General Motors, you will play a pivotal role in advancing autonomous driving capabilities. You will serve as a senior individual contributor responsible for developing, deploying, and optimizing machine learning solutions that directly impact vehicle performance and safety. Your expertise will help design sophisticated ML models that enable autonomous vehicles to operate reliably across diverse real-world scenarios. Collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you will contribute to defining technical strategies and support the growth of engineering talent through mentorship and knowledge sharing. Your work will involve translating cutting-edge research into scalable onboard ML solutions, continuously improving our autonomy stack, and ensuring the deployment of robust, safe, and efficient AI systems that drive the future of mobility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
- Experience working with large-scale foundation models and alignment techniques applied to real-world systems
- Proficiency in PyTorch and Python programming languages
- Experience building and scaling model training pipelines for efficient iteration
- Strong data processing skills using tools such as NumPy, Pandas, and Apache Spark
- Demonstrated ability to deliver applied ML solutions within real-world constraints and timelines
- Experience deploying machine learning models into production environments and understanding end-to-end deployment workflows
- Strong communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration
- Experience in robotics or autonomous driving systems is preferred
- Relevant experience in applied research, model optimization, and infrastructure development
Responsibilities
- Design and implement machine learning solutions aligned with General Motors' autonomous driving objectives
- Apply advanced techniques such as unsupervised pre-training, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and foundation modeling to solve complex problems in object detection, tracking, classification, and trajectory generation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy models and algorithms into onboard vehicle systems ensuring safety and reliability
- Contribute to applied research efforts, staying current with advancements in ML frameworks and methodologies
- Develop and maintain efficient infrastructure, pipelines, and tooling to facilitate rapid model iteration and deployment
- Lead technical execution from prototyping to production deployment, documenting best practices and learnings
- Mentor and support engineers through technical collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing to foster engineering excellence
- Support continuous improvement of the autonomy stack through innovative solutions and process enhancements
