About the Role
Our client is seeking an AI Data Scientist to develop advanced algorithms for Automated Defect Classification (ADC) and Die-to-Database (DB) comparison. This role focuses on applying mathematical modeling, machine learning, and computer vision to industrial inspection challenges, helping improve defect detection, image analysis, and inspection accuracy.
You'll work with optical images and large datasets to develop, evaluate, and refine AI models that identify microscopic defects and compare captured images against CAD database layouts. The position also involves collaborating with software engineers, field application teams, and domain experts to validate and deploy production-ready models.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, train, and optimize deep learning and computer vision models for automated defect detection and classification.
• Develop object detection and image classification algorithms to identify microscopic defects, including particles, scratches, and pattern anomalies.
• Build high-precision image registration, geometric alignment, and image-matching algorithms to compare captured optical images with CAD database layouts.
• Improve image alignment accuracy and algorithm robustness under varying imaging conditions.
• Apply statistical modeling, signal processing, denoising, and feature extraction techniques to improve image quality and inspection accuracy.
• Analyze large, noisy datasets to improve signal-to-noise ratios and model performance.
• Evaluate model performance using real-world inspection data and investigate edge cases.
• Improve model accuracy through iterative training, active learning, and few-shot learning techniques.
• Collaborate with software engineers, field application teams, and domain experts to deploy and validate production-ready AI models.
• Document algorithms, experiments, and model performance results.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Support data preparation, annotation, validation, and quality assurance.
• Keep up with developments in computer vision, machine learning, and AI technologies.
• Work with cross-functional teams to support product development and model deployment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Focus Areas
The role centers on several related areas of AI and industrial image analysis:
• Computer Vision and Deep Learning: Automated defect detection, classification, object detection, and image classification.
• Image Processing: Image registration, geometric alignment, image matching, denoising, and feature extraction.
• Statistical Analysis: Statistical modeling, signal processing, and analysis of large, noisy datasets.
• Model Evaluation and Improvement: Performance analysis, edge-case investigation, iterative training, active learning, and few-shot learning.
Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, direct-hire position based in either North Phoenix, Arizona, or Hillsboro, Oregon. The schedule requires working on-site four days per week, with one remote workday.
Compensation
The stated annual salary range is $115,000–$140,000.
